Drayton Museum needs volunteers

Museum

Drayton Museum is appealing for volunteers, particularly those willing to lead on important aspects of its operation. Ingrid Aitken, the Secretary of the Civic Society which runs the Museum, said, ‘We desperately need more members to help spread the load and take the Museum into its next phase.  It would be a tragedy if it had to close because of a lack of people to help in its running. ’Sadly two stalwart members of the Committee have passed away in the last few years leaving just three committee members.

The Museum’s stewards and volunteers show great enthusiasm, dedication and pride in what they are doing for the town. However, more stewards are needed to guarantee opening the Museum twice a week in summer.  Further ‘back-room’ volunteers are needed to help with building maintenance, the archives, photography, the website and research.

We hope to continue raising the profile of the Society’s work and encouraging more members by increasing publicity.  We are also offering other organizations the use of our street window for displays to help them publicise events, which will hopefully encourage more joint working.

Work has been ongoing on projects whilst the Museum has been closed throughout the winter.

The Museum will open its doors to visitors again on Wednesday 3rd May and will be opening on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, 10.30am-1.00pm, until the autumn. We would love to be able to open it for longer but this depends on the number of stewards available. So if you would like to see this wonderful town asset continue to tell the ‘Story of Drayton’, have good people skills, know the town’s history or want to learn about it and have a few hours spare every few weeks please contact the Museum at the following address:
