The Community Resource Care & Share Group offers a warm and welcoming place to socialise and make new friends, for family carers and their family members with mild to moderate dementia. The group size is normally to up to eight couples (such as husband/wife/partner or parent/son/daughter) and is supported by a small team of staff and volunteers.
The Market Drayton Care & Share Group meets at Charter Court in Market Drayton on the first and third Tuesday of the month, from 12.30 – 3.30 pm. Meetings start off with everyone bringing their lunch and eating together followed by fun activities, crafts or local speakers, ending with afternoon tea.
Relax and mix with other people who have similar experiences of caring for a loved one with dementia or memory loss. It is a comfortable place to meet together and for carers to access support and advice. (Unfortunately we cannot include any-one with personal care needs.)
If you decide to join, after a free trial session, you will pay a monthly subscription to help towards the running costs. Carers will gain credits from attending the group meetings and helping out. These credits are then exchanged for a respite break. Normally respite is once a month and we look after the person with dementia once you bring them to the venue.
We involve everyone in the group activities, helping those with or without their family carer to enjoy a safe and supported space. Carers have used their respite to attend appointments, visit relatives and generally take time out for themselves.
As a group member, you will be invited to give your ideas for planning future activities for the group. We will also seek opportunities for your involvement in local activities such as day trips, eating out together and visiting local attractions. And if you have a craft skill or hobby you would like to share with the group, please let the Co-ordinator know.
