The £5 Message is what the whole of Totally Locally is built around.
A simple message that makes it easy for people to shop local. No pressure, no guilt. Easy.
The idea came when I first created the campaign for the place I live in, after speaking to lots of people while I was doing some research.
When I asked people what stopped them from shopping locally, many said:
“It’s too hard. I need to use supermarkets, so if I have to shop local, I would struggle”.
So I said, “What if spending just £5 a week in the local shops meant you were doing your bit?”. Their Response? “Oh that would be easy, I can do that and not feel guilty when I go to the supermarket”.
What is the #FiverFest
The Totally Locally #FiverFest is a big celebration of Britain’s fantastic small businesses and shops, many run by families or individuals, but ALL contributing massively to the economy of the UK and the wellbeing of our towns.
Towns and High Streets taking part put on special £5 offers for either one week, sometimes two weeks, to show the diversity and value of what they sell, and to say thank you to the communities that support them.
It comes from the (now famous) Totally Locally £5 message showing the huge impact of people spending just £5 per week in their local independent shops can have on our High Streets.
“If every adult in MARKET DRAYTON spent just £5 per week in their local independent shops and businesses, it would mean ADD 2.3 million per year going directly into our local economy. Which can lead to more jobs, a better high street, a stronger economy & a nicer place to live. Makes you think doesn’t it?!”
