In mid July, work began on resurfacing the canal towpath between Victoria Bridge and Market Drayton aqueduct. The improvements were instigated by the Canal and River Trust using money provided through The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Even though the UK has left the EU, those rural development programs already in place will continue to operate until closure around 2023. The work was completed by the end of August and the lovely new surface is in place on the ‘urban’ stretch where the Shropshire Union Canal passes Market Drayton.
