Drayton Artsfest & MDCE Proposed Covid Tribute Gift To The Town.
In response to the National Initiative set up earlier this year to encourage Covid Tribute Memorials to be set up in every Town and Village nationwide, members of Market Drayton Community Enterprise (MDCE) and Drayton Arts Festival organisers are planning to ‘gift’ a Covid Tribute to Market Drayton in the form of a modern colourful sculpture consisting of three pillars.
Suzanne Edwards of the MDCE said: “We chose this sculpture to symbolise respect, care and sensitivity to an all-age and gender audience and to represent a timeless and iconic piece of street furniture in the centre of the town. The proposed financing or this project will be allocated from money raised by members of the community at special events held in 2019 to support funding the 2020 ArtsFest and MDCE Festivals which did not take place. As we were not able to run any Festival events last year, we feel this gesture represents an appropriate way to give something back to the community.”
All Out War —
by Irene Stasinski
A nasty Bug is going round
Everywhere the little sucker’s found
Not so fussy who’s hit hardest
Old and frail are easy targets
It’s not right and it’s not fair
not playing by the rules I swear
Although humanity you’ve blighted
at least you got the world united
Hope soon the last of you we’ve heard
You nasty horrid little turd
Top brains are working in their teams to smash you into smithereens

Irene Stasinki’s ‘Tribute to the NHS’ Poetry Book
Irene Stasinski, prolific painter and poet, is 90 years old, and has lived in MD for many years. But last December she was taken into Telford Hospital. When she started to feel a bit better she wrote more poems from her hospital bed and a nurse asked her if she would write a booklet of poems for the ward.
That was when MDCE and ArtsFest stepped in to sponsor her. They paid for the printing, and organised the booklet’s distribution to every ward in Telford, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch Hospitals; all local care homes and sheltered accommodation premises in Market Drayton; all the community centres; churches; the foodbank; health centre; library; Raven House; the Beacon Centre; Alsager vaccination centre, and the NHS vaccination teams working at the Swimming Centre. A copy has also been given to each of the main Supermarkets in the town who do home deliveries.
