On 12th May 2022, at the annual Council Meeting, Councillor Mark Whittle (right) was elected to the role of Town Mayor of Market Drayton. Mark served in the Falklands, Bosnia and Kosovo during his time in the regular army, but also holds a degree in art. He is responsible for a number of murals that can be seen around town – notably the silhouette of WW1 soldiers on Cheshire Street which he completed in 2018, and more recently the Mural of Capt. Tom Moore next to the RBL completed in 2021. As you can see (left), the new mayor is keen to engage with town events. His inaugural wetting took place during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on 2nd June! (One of 19 engagements he carried out in his first 30 days as Mayor).
Mark is tremendously proud of Market Drayton and says: “I deem it a great privilege to have been voted in to the role by the overwhelming majority of my fellow councillors. We are a thriving town, growing at a tremendous rate and our infrastructure needs hard and dedicated work. We are determined to keep pace with it and to put our townspeople first.”
