Duddon Valley builder John Angus completed the floor in the under croft mid April. The photographs show some of the insulation before the final screed layer was put down. Images also show the new support wall to the ‘coal house’ side of the room. John will return later in the year to create two window openings in the wall facing the valley. We will then get on with the plumbing, electrics and plastering.
Our plan is that this room will be ready for use summer 2023.
In many ways the under croft is the last piece of the Birks jigsaw and tops off the major renovation work. Permission has been granted to build porches on the front door and one facing the valley. We can then turn our attention to the finer points of finishing off the interior.
The committee would like to remind people that the Birks is a community asset and are very keen that groups and organisations from around the area realise it is available to hire. We recently took a stand at the Health & Wellbeing event promoted by the Market Drayton Community Enterprise and will be attending other similar events in the future.
