In 1991 the late David Jenkins, our leading local historian, gave lectures to the U3A groups about the history of the town and surroundings. After his death it was decided to produce his lectures on book form; Peter Brown, helped by I Picton-Robinson, have edited the lectures into a written form and made a few updates. The book, titled ‘A History of Market Drayton and its Parish’ covers the early history, the growth of the town, local government, education, religious observance, industry and agriculture. There are many pictures of the town in early years, mostly the 19th century.
