Market Drayton has a plethora of events that take place annually (Covid restrictions allowing!).
But many other events, to which members of the public are invited, happen on an ad hoc basis at venues around town, and are advertised on this website, please follow this link to the calendar page. You can also be sure to find lots of interesting stalls on market day every week – it happens every Wednesday and attracts visitors from around the county and beyond…
The yearly timetable kicks off with the Market Drayton 10K – normally held on the second Sunday in May. It is followed by ‘Rock and Bowl’ – a music festival which spans the late May bank holiday. ‘Party in the Park’ is next – usually in August – held in the Town Park and features music with lots of local bands, stalls and a funfair with childrens’ rides.
As we head towards Autumn, the ‘Ginger and Spice Festival’ – a gastronomic extravaganza! – takes place over the period of a week in late September.
At the end of October, the ‘Drayton Arts Fest’ happens at multiple venues – timed to coincide with the Autumn half term week. In late November the Town Council organises the ‘Festival of Lights’ – the day when the Christmas lights are officially switched on. You will see more people in town at the Festival of Lights than on any other day of the year – musicians, street performers and artists converge on the town… An extensive ‘Christmas Street Market’ is also held which lasts well into the evening. Naturally, Santa pays a visit – often leaving his reindeer tethered outside the town hall!
Other events frequently popup but on a less regular basis; ‘The Canal Boat Market’ visits the town from time-to-time and the ‘Market Drayton Community Enterprise’ hosts a series of Well-Being and Environmental Mini-Festivals at the Festival Drayton Centre.
